Socket and switch services

  • new socket outlets and power points;
  • additional points for renovations, kitchens, offices and equipment;
  • relocation of sockets and switches for a new room layout;
  • replacement of old, cracked, loose or heat-damaged mechanisms;
  • standard, switched and USB-equipped socket outlets where suitable;
  • one-way, two-way and multi-gang switch installation;
  • surface-mounted or concealed cable routes after assessment;
  • diagnostics of non-working, sparking or overheating points.

Multi-point installation for renovations and property upgrades

Villas, condos, offices, shops and restaurants often need several new points rather than one replacement. We can assess room layouts, appliance locations, furniture, work areas and cable routes before the installation is confirmed.

For a larger project, the point schedule can separate standard sockets, equipment supplies, switches, outdoor points and circuits that may require their own protection. This reduces dependence on extension leads and avoids adding multiple loads without checking the existing installation.

What we check before adding a power point

  • the existing circuit, cable route and available load;
  • the electrical panel and protective device serving the circuit;
  • the intended appliance or equipment and its manufacturer requirements;
  • the condition and arrangement of existing conductors and connections;
  • grounding and RCD or RCBO requirements where applicable;
  • wall, cabinet, floor or work-surface construction at the installation point;
  • indoor, outdoor, damp, dusty or heat-exposed conditions;
  • access for installation, inspection and future maintenance.

Sockets for appliances and higher electrical loads

A new outlet does not automatically mean that the existing circuit can support the intended appliance. Water heaters, cooking equipment, pumps, air-conditioning equipment and other higher-load devices may require a dedicated cable route, breaker, isolation method or additional protection.

The solution depends on the equipment specifications, expected load, cable route, electrical panel, grounding and protective devices. EV charging is assessed separately and should not be treated as an ordinary socket installation.

Socket and switch fault diagnostics

  • a socket or switch does not work;
  • a plug fits loosely or falls out;
  • a faceplate or mechanism becomes unusually warm;
  • there is sparking, buzzing, melting or a burnt smell;
  • a socket moves inside or comes away from the wall;
  • a switch works intermittently or controls the wrong point;
  • lights or equipment lose power when the point is touched;
  • a breaker, RCD or RCBO trips when equipment is connected.

Why sockets overheat or become loose

Heating or unstable operation may be caused by a loose connection, worn contacts, a damaged mechanism, an unsuitable plug and socket combination, excessive load, damaged conductors, moisture or a fault in the connected appliance.

Replacing only the visible faceplate may not remove the cause. We check the point, connections, circuit and connected load before recommending repair, replacement or a new supply arrangement.

Outdoor and damp-location sockets

Outdoor, kitchen, utility and other damp locations require equipment and installation methods suitable for the actual exposure to water, humidity, heat, sunlight, dust and mechanical damage.

The enclosure, cable entry, mounting position, grounding and additional protection are assessed for the location. A universal IP rating or one installation method is not assumed to be correct for every property.

Standard switches and smart controls

This page covers ordinary wall switches and their wiring. Smart switches, connected relays and app-controlled devices require a separate compatibility check for the existing wiring, connected load, neutral conductor where required, control method and Smart Home system.

If automation is required, see our Smart Switches service before selecting devices for every room.

Safety before socket or switch repair

  • stop using a point that is hot, melting, smoking, sparking repeatedly or smells burnt;
  • do not touch exposed conductors or a damaged mechanism;
  • do not hold a loose socket in place while an appliance is connected;
  • do not cover heat damage or exposed parts with tape and continue using the point;
  • switch off the affected circuit only if it can be identified and operated safely;
  • keep people away from the area if there is active smoke, arcing or visible melting.

How the service works

  1. Send photos, location, point count and details of the intended equipment.
  2. We assess the existing circuit, cable route, load, protection and installation conditions.
  3. For a fault, we identify whether the cause is the mechanism, connection, wiring, protection or connected appliance.
  4. We explain the installation or repair options before the work is confirmed.
  5. After agreed work, the affected points, controls and relevant circuit protection are checked.
