A new installation or a different mixer type normally requires a wider assessment. Hot and cold pipe positions, support, wall depth, waterproofing, service access and finished-surface dimensions must be coordinated before the final installation.

Exposed wall-mounted mixer replacement

An exposed mixer connects to hot and cold outlets at the finished wall. After the old unit is removed, the outlet threads, spacing, alignment and surrounding surface can be assessed more accurately.

Eccentric connectors or adapters are used only when suitable for the existing outlets and the new mixer. A mixer should not be forced into misaligned or damaged connections. If an outlet, thread or concealed fitting is loose or defective, additional plumbing access may be required.

New concealed mixer installation

A concealed mixer has an internal body installed within the wall and external controls fitted after waterproofing and finishing. Body depth, orientation, support, pipe connections and the finished-wall reference must match the manufacturer instructions.

New concealed installation normally forms part of planned bathroom work. Plumbing, pressure testing where applicable, waterproofing, tiling and final trim installation need to be sequenced so the body remains correctly positioned and serviceable.

The package does not assume that tile, waterproofing or decorative finishing is included in the mixer installation scope.

Replacing an existing concealed mixer

Replacing only a cartridge, thermostat, diverter or external trim may belong to wall mixer repair. Replacing the concealed body is a larger installation task and depends on access, pipe positions and compatibility with the selected new system.

A new trim kit is not assumed to fit an old concealed body, even when the brand is the same. If the internal body must be replaced, wall or tile access and subsequent finishing may be required.

Thermostatic mixers and diverter systems

Thermostatic mixers and multi-outlet systems can include separate temperature, flow and diverter controls. The body, outlets and supplied components must be installed in the intended orientation and connected to the correct shower, hand shower or spout route.

Available hot-water temperature, flow and pressure conditions affect operation. Installation does not create performance that the building water supply or heater cannot provide.

Checks after installation

• the mixer is secure, aligned and clear of surrounding surfaces;
• hot and cold controls operate in the intended direction;
• flow and temperature mixing respond normally;
• shower, spout and diverter functions switch correctly;
• accessible unions, hoses and connections show no visible leak;
• trim plates and seals sit correctly against the finished surface;
• the user can access normal controls and service points.

What may require additional work

• moving or replacing hot and cold water pipes;
• repairing damaged threads, loose outlets or concealed fittings;
• opening a wall or tile surface to reach concealed connections;
• wall preparation, support or correction of installation depth;
