Access below the bathtub

Mounting nuts, supply hoses, shower-hose connections and diverter components are commonly located below the bath edge. An intended service panel or removable bath side makes installation and future maintenance more practical.

If access is blocked by a fixed panel, tiles or the bathtub body, replacement may require opening the panel, accessing from another side or moving the bathtub. The required access is explained before additional or destructive work is agreed.

Hand shower and retractable hose routing

A deck-mounted hand shower may use a retractable hose that moves below the bath edge. The hose needs a suitable route and enough free space to extend and retract without sharp bends, abrasion or interference with other components.

Connections should remain accessible for inspection. The hose and guide arrangement must match the supplied system; a decorative holder alone does not confirm that sufficient below-bath space is available.

Diverter, spout and multi-part systems

Bathtub mixer kits can have separate hot/cold controls, a combined control, bath spout, diverter and hand shower. Each component must be placed in the intended orientation and connected according to the supplied scheme.

Component positions affect hose lengths, operation and future access. Mixing parts from different systems is not assumed to be compatible without manufacturer information and matching connections.

Checks after installation

• controls, spout and hand-shower holder are secure and aligned;
• hot and cold water operate in the intended direction;
• flow and temperature mixing respond normally;
• the diverter switches fully between bath and shower outlets;
• the retractable hose moves without binding or visible damage;

• the area below the bathtub remains accessible for future service.
